Kolkata, 20 February (H.S.): In a shocking incident of gunfire in Howrah, Jayanta Pal, the Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of Chanditala police station in Hooghly district, was injured late last night. The incident took place around 11 PM on Wednesday near the Ghosh Para petrol pump in Howrah. Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot and began their investigation. The injured officer was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Howrah for treatment.
According to police sources, Jayanta Pal sustained a gunshot wound to his hand. A bullet casing was recovered from the scene. At the time of the incident, a woman was present with him. The police also found a car at the scene, which has been seized for further examination.
Senior officials of the Howrah City Police arrived at the spot to assess the situation. Meanwhile, both the injured officer and the woman accompanying him are being interrogated.
The police are investigating the nature of the officer's relationship with the woman and the reason behind their presence at the location. However, officials have refrained from making any conclusive statements at this stage. The incident has sent shockwaves through the police department, and authorities are exploring all possible angles in the investigation.
