Guwahati, 20 February (HS): Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has clarified that the Assam government has not decided to close any circle office. He said that in connection with the delimitation of the assembly constituencies, the government had definitely ordered that the officials should ensure that there must should be one circle office in all the assembly constituencies in consultation with the local people and MLAs. Chief Minister Dr. Sarma was replying to the discussion on the Governor's address on the third day of the ongoing budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
It is known that during the discussion on the motion of thanks brought by MLA Rupak Sharma on the Governor's address, many other MLAs including Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal had urged not to close the circle office. The MLAs said that due to the closure of circle offices, people have to travel several kilometers to settle local land related problems. The Chief Minister made it clear in his reply that no decision has been taken by the government to close any circle office.
