Barpeta (Assam), 20 February (HS): One Bhutanese citizen killed while another was seriously injured in a horrific road accident on the National Highway at Sarbhog under Barpeta district. The deceased Bhutanese national is said to be the driver of a four-wheeler (BP-2B-6878).

Sarbhog police on Thursday said that the identity of the deceased driver and the injured person could not be ascertained. The accident took place at Baregaon, Sarbhog on National Highway-27. Police has informed that the accident took place early this morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the Bhutanese vehicle (BP-2B-6875) was going from Barpeta to Bongaigaon via National Highway 27. The Bhutian vehicle, which was moving at a high speed, suddenly lost control and after hitting the divider, collided with an 18-wheeler truck (UP-93BT-5120) going towards Guwahati.

In the accident, the Bhutanese driver killed on the spot and his colleague sustained serious injuries. On receiving the information, Sarbhog police reached the spot and sent the deceased driver to Barpeta Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. Also, the injured person was admitted to Sarbhog Community Health Center for treatment. Police is investigating the matter.
