Dehradun, February 19 (HS): The Uttarakhand government has implemented a new land law, due to which outsiders will not be able to buy garden and agricultural land in 11 hill districts of the state. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's cabinet approved this law, due to which all the provisions of the land law implemented in 2018 have been repealed.

Under the new law, consolidation and settlement will be implemented to protect the lands of hill districts from encroachment. Earlier, the District Magistrate had the right to give permission for land purchase, but now his powers have been limited and he will not be able to give such permission personally.

A portal will be created for land purchase in the state, where the land purchased by any person outside the state will be recorded. People outside the state will have to compulsorily give an affidavit for land purchase. The District Magistrates of all the districts will have to regularly submit reports related to land purchase to the Revenue Council and the government. A provision has been made in the new land law that the land falling within the municipal limits can be used only as per the prescribed land use. If any person uses the land against the rules, then that land will be vested in the government.
