Former revenue inspector dismissed for bribery, sentenced to three years in jail


Bhubaneswar, 19 February (H.S.) : Ramesh Chandra Barad, the former Revenue Inspector of Karlamunda and Narla Tahasils in Kalahandi district, has been dismissed from government service and sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.

On January 31, 2025, Barad was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant in exchange for demarcating their land. He was also fined Rs. 20,000. Barad was charged by Odisha Vigilance in April 2021 under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Following his conviction, the competent authority dismissed Barad from his government service, effective February 18, 2025, under the OCS (CCA) Rules, 1962.

A press release from the Vigilance Directorate stated, Following the conviction of Sri Ramesh Chandra Barad, Odisha Vigilance communicated to the competent authority to take necessary action against him. As a result, Sri Ramesh Chandra Barad, Former Revenue Inspector of Karlamunda and Narla Tahasils, District Kalahandi, has been removed from government service for his involvement in bribery.
