Guwahati, 19 February (HS): On the second day of the budget session of the Assam Assembly, there was a lot of uproar in the House. The first day's proceedings of the Assembly were finally completed amid uproar. Both the ruling party and the opposition proposed to adjourn the House demanding discussion on different issues, which created a turbulent atmosphere in the Assembly.
Opposition Congress, Akhil Gogoi and CPI (M) demanded discussion on issues like illegal coal mining in Umrangsu, APSC scam and syndicate. At the same time, AIUDF presented an adjournment motion demanding the release of Indian citizens from detention camps. On the other hand, the ruling party MLAs wanted to discuss the investigation report of the APSC scam.
MLAs from both sides came in front of the Speaker's chair and raised slogans and protested, which disrupted the proceedings of the House. The Speaker had to adjourn the proceedings of the House thrice—first for 10 minutes, second for 10 minutes and third for 15 minutes.
In the meantime the Chief Minister attended the House and said that the government is ready for discussion. He appealed to the opposition MLAs to behave according to the rules. During this, the Chief Minister took a dig at Shivsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi and said that if needed, the BJP is ready to give Gogoi time to speak for 10 minutes or an hour.
