Kolkata, 18 February (H.S.) – Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, launched a blistering attack on the Mamata Banerjee government, accusing it of deliberately altering the state's demographic structure by facilitating illegal infiltration from Bangladesh.
Adhikari alleged that terrorists from the neighboring country are establishing bases in Bengal, and the state government is turning a blind eye to the issue. When Assam STF caught these infiltrators, the Mamata government remained silent. Even her own minister admitted that parts of Kolkata resemble a neighboring country, with a sharp rise in a particular community's population. Despite this, the government refuses to act, he stated.
The BJP leader also accused Mamata Banerjee of dividing people along religious lines, citing her controversial remarks on the Maha Kumbh. She called the sacred Maha Kumbh ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ in the Assembly. This is a direct insult to the faith of 40 crore Hindus who took a holy dip at Triveni Sangam. Who gave her the right to humiliate the religious sentiments of millions? he questioned.
Adhikari further claimed that the Trinamool government has systematically suppressed Hindu traditions, including the celebration of Saraswati Puja. He alleged that during TMC’s rule, a man named Sabir Mondal issued a fatwa banning Saraswati Puja in a college where Mamata Banerjee herself claims to have studied. Despite this blatant attack on religious freedom, no action was taken against him, exposing the government’s appeasement policy, he remarked.
Reacting to the suspension of BJP MLAs from the Assembly, Adhikari called it a conspiracy to suppress critical issues. We wanted to highlight the RG Kar hospital incident, the siphoning off of central funds, the rising violence within TMC ranks, and the disparity in DA for state and central employees. But instead of addressing these concerns, the government silenced us through suspension, he alleged.
Taking a dig at Mamata Banerjee, Adhikari reminded everyone of her past actions. She is accusing BJP MLAs of misconduct, but in 2006, despite not being a member of the Assembly, she led a violent protest inside the House, tarnishing the sanctity of the legislature, he claimed.
Suvendu Adhikari vowed that he and his party would not allow the alleged demographic shift in Bengal to succeed. We will fight against this conspiracy and expose the government’s hidden agenda. The Hindu community must wake up and raise its voice, he declared.
