Guwahati, 18 February (HS): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved a significant milestone in the Sevoke-Rangpo Rail Project being undertaken in collaboration with IRCON International Limited. This landmark infrastructure initiative is set to enhance connectivity between West Bengal and Sikkim, promote economic development and regional integration.
NFR CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma informed on Tuesday that recently, the project achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully launching two 69 meter long open web girders for bridge number 6. The total weight of these girders is 810 metric tonnes (excluding launching nose weight), which were launched at a height of 40 meters using the advanced launching nose method. This method ensures accuracy and efficiency in the construction of challenging bridge structures on difficult terrain.
So far, out of the 13 bridges planned for the project, 7 have been successfully completed while the remaining 6 bridges are under continuous progress. The relentless efforts of IRCON under the guidance of NFR underline the firm commitment to complete the project with efficiency and excellence.
The Sevoke-Rangpo New Rail Link Project connecting Sevoke (West Bengal) and Rangpo (Sikkim) is about 44.96 km long and consists of 14 tunnels, 13 major bridges, 09 minor bridges and 5 stations. The longest tunnel (T-10) is 5.3 km long and the longest bridge (BR-17) is 425 m long. About 38.65 km of the entire project passes through tunnels.
The Sevoke-Rangpo Rail Project will revolutionize rail connectivity for Sikkim, significantly reducing travel time, boosting tourism and facilitating trade and commerce. This strategic infrastructure development will play a vital role in improving socio-economic conditions, providing better accessibility and strengthening national integration. NFR is committed to timely completion of this transformational project to ensure that the benefits of improved rail infrastructure reach the people of this region of West Bengal and Sikkim at the earliest.
