Kolkata, 18 February (H.S.) – After Lalu Yadav, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also made a controversial statement regarding the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. She referred to the sacred Hindu festival as ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ (Death Kumbh) while citing recent incidents of stampedes at the religious gathering.
Speaking on Tuesday, Banerjee expressed concern over the lack of proper arrangements at the event, claiming that several lives have been lost due to severe mismanagement, which is extremely tragic and alarming.
She also questioned the security measures in place, stating that the government should have made adequate arrangements in advance to prevent casualties and ensure a peaceful event. Accusing the authorities of preferential treatment, she alleged that VIPs were receiving special privileges while common devotees were facing severe hardships.
The Chief Minister further stated that the loss of so many lives highlighted the government’s negligence and urged authorities to take concrete steps to prevent such tragedies in the future.
