Cong will not rest till Statehood restored: Sawhney

Jammu, 18 February (H.S.): Former Minister and senior Congress leader Yogesh Sawhney held a crucial preparatory meeting for the upcoming district-wise convention under the ‘Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq’ campaign in Reasi district today.

The campaign, launched by JKPCC chief will begin on February 21 to demand the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Sawhney held two meetings one at Katra and second in Reasi-focused on mobilizing public participation and strengthening the party’s stance on Statehood.

Sawhney emphasized that if the demand is not met, the campaign could escalate into a larger agitational movement. He asserted that Congress is fully committed to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s Statehood and will not rest until it is achieved. He criticized the delay in reinstating Statehood, calling it a betrayal of the people’s trust.

“Jammu and Kashmir had a proud history as a full-fledged State, with a unique identity and constitutional safeguards. Stripping it of its Statehood was an undemocratic decision, and the people of J&K will not accept this status indefinitely,” he said.

Sawhney reiterated that Congress is ready to take the fight to every district, ensuring that every citizen’s voice is heard. He highlighted the growing discontent among the people, stating that the Congress campaign is not just a party initiative but a people’s movement.

“The Government cannot suppress the aspirations of the people forever. The voices demanding Statehood are getting louder, and ignoring them will only deepen the resentment among the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he remarked.
