Tamil Nadu, 17 February (H.S.): The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted a coastal clean-up drive in Chennai as part of the Swachh Sagar Abhiyan initiative. The objective of the drive was to raise awareness about the importance of keeping the coastline clean and to promote a sense of responsibility among citizens to protect the marine environment.
The clean-up drive was conducted at the Marina Beach and the Coast Guard personnel were joined by volunteers from various organizations, including the Chennai Port Trust, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, and local schools. During the drive, a large quantity of waste, including plastic bottles, bags, and other non-biodegradable items, was collected from the beach. The waste was then disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
The ICG also conducted an awareness campaign to educate the public about the importance of keeping the coastline clean. Pamphlets and posters were distributed, and a rally was organized to raise awareness about the issue.
A senior ICG official said, We are committed to protecting the marine environment and promoting a sense of responsibility among citizens to keep the coastline clean.
