Headless Woman’s Body Sparks Tension Between Villages in Odisha’s Malkangiri; BNS-163 Imposed

Bhubaneswar, 8 December (H.S.) The Malkangiri district administration has imposed BNS-163 across a 10-kilometre area that includes the villages of MV-26 and Rakhelguda due to escalating tensions between the two communities. As a precautionary measure, the residential school in MV-26 has been closed for four days, and the situation is being closely monitored.

The unrest began after the headless body of a woman from Rakhelguda was recovered near the Dudumetla river. Reports indicate that the woman had been missing for several days, with a complaint lodged at Korukonda police station last Wednesday. Villagers from Rakhelguda have alleged that residents of MV-26 were involved in the killing, triggering confrontations and heightened fear in both villages.

Sources said that following the recovery of the body, a group allegedly entered multiple homes in MV-26, causing damage to property, setting vehicles on fire, and looting some items. Several houses were partially destroyed during the incident.

Police personnel were deployed immediately to MV-26 to restore order and prevent further escalation. Security forces continue to maintain a strong presence in the area, closely monitoring both villages under BNS-163 restrictions.

Authorities are investigating the incident, including efforts to locate the missing head of the deceased. Police from Korukonda and neighbouring areas are coordinating to ensure the safety of residents while the enquiry proceeds.

No arrests have been reported so far, and the BNS-163 restrictions remain in effect until further notice.
