
Bhubaneswar, 8 December (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for several districts of Odisha, cautioning residents about a significant dip in night temperatures and the likelihood of dense fog over the next few days.
In its latest bulletin, the IMD placed Sundargarh and Kandhamal under a yellow warning, predicting dense fog at one or two locations between the morning of December 9 and December 10. During the same period, cold wave conditions are expected in isolated pockets of Sundargarh, Angul and Jharsuguda.
A broader cold wave alert has been issued for December 10 to 12, with conditions likely to prevail in isolated parts of Sundargarh, Angul, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Sonepur and Cuttack, the IMD stated.
Urban centres are also expected to witness a sharp decline in minimum temperatures. Bhubaneswar is likely to record around 11°C on December 11 and 12, while Cuttack may see temperatures fall to 10°C, according to the forecast.
Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions during early morning and late night hours, particularly in areas prone to fog and cold wave conditions.
