
Thiruvananthapuram, 29 Dec (H.S.):Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, will arrive in the Kerala capital today for a two-day official visit, during which he will attend several key public and academic events.
The Vice President is scheduled to arrive in Thiruvananthapuram at 7.00 pm on Monday. Soon after his arrival, he will attend the Trivandrum Fest as the chief guest at the LMS Compound, Palayam, at 7.20 pm. Following the event, he will stay overnight at Raj Bhavan.
On Tuesday morning, the Vice President will travel to Varkala, where he will inaugurate the 93rd Sivagiri Theerthadanam (Sivagiri Pilgrimage Conference) at 10 am. The annual event, held at Sivagiri Mutt, is a major spiritual and cultural gathering that draws participants from across the country.
After the function, the Vice President will return to Thiruvananthapuram by helicopter. At 12.05 pm, he will inaugurate the platinum jubilee celebrations of Mar Ivanios College, one of the city’s premier educational institutions. Following the event, he will depart for New Delhi at 1.25 pm, concluding his official visit to the state.
In view of the Vice President’s visit, extensive security and traffic arrangements have been put in place across the city. As part of the security protocol, public entry to Kanakakkunnu Palace grounds will be restricted during the Vasanthotsavam New Year lighting ceremony. The public will not be allowed entry between 6 pm and 8 pm on Monday.
Traffic restrictions will also be enforced in several parts of the city on December 29 and 30. On December 29, from 2.30 pm to 8.30 pm, parking will be prohibited on both sides of major roads, including the stretch from Shanghumugham–All Saints–Chacka–Pattom–General Hospital–Asan Square–Flyover–Legislative Assembly–Vellayambalam–Kowdiar.
The police have advised commuters to cooperate with traffic personnel and follow diversions to ensure smooth movement and enhanced security during the Vice President’s visit.
