Chennai, 28 December (H.S.) : Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K Selvaperunthagai on Sunday paid glowing tributes to the late Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam founder Vijayakanth on his second death anniversary.

Speaking to reporters in the city, the Congress leader described the actor turned politician as the greatest hero of the state. He emphasized that the late leader is still remembered and praised across the region because of the deep love and affection he consistently showed toward the people of Tamil Nadu.

The senior leader noted that Vijayakanth’s commitment to the welfare of the masses and his simple nature earned him a permanent place in the hearts of the public. He pointed out that the massive turnout of leaders and workers from various political parties to offer floral tributes is a testament to his enduring legacy.

Authorities and political observers noted that the late leader played a significant role in shaping the political landscape of the state through his dedicated public outreach and efforts for the underprivileged.

Beyond his tributes to the DMDK founder, Selvaperunthagai addressed several national issues during his interaction. He condemned what he termed as distortions of history and expressed concern over the safety of minorities in certain states, calling it a threat to sovereignty.

He also questioned the central government's silence regarding the protection of minorities in neighboring countries. Highlighting the strength of the INDIA alliance, he asserted that the coalition remains united. He further mentioned that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are expected to visit the state soon to strengthen the party's presence.
