
Chennai, 28 December (H.S.) : A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two teenagers in the early hours of Saturday on the Poonamallee Bypass Road. The victims were identified as nineteen year old P Nirmal, a second year B Com student, and his sixteen year old friend S Santhosh.
According to the authorities, the incident occurred around three thirty in the morning when a lorry carrying poultry rammed into their motorcycle. Both victims were residents of Parivakkam and were reportedly heading out for refreshments when the fatal crash took place.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the lorry was traveling from Nagari toward Royapettah. The vehicle suddenly took a sharp left turn, hitting the motorcycle and throwing both riders onto the pavement.
Nirmal, who was operating the bike, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Both teenagers sustained critical injuries to their heads and abdomens and were immediately rushed to Sri Ramachandra Hospital in Porur. However, medical professionals declared them brought dead upon arrival.
The Poonamallee Traffic Investigation Wing examined CCTV footage from the vicinity, which confirmed that the accident was caused by the negligence of the lorry driver. Following the evidence, the police arrested thirty one year old A Nisar Ahmed.
He has been charged under Sections one hundred and six and two hundred and eighty one of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by negligence and rash driving.
Officials stated that a detailed investigation is ongoing to gather further evidence regarding the circumstances of the crash.
