Alipurduar, 28 December (H.S.): The naked body of the sadhu, who resided at the Kali temple located at Lalpur crematorium under Shamuktala police station, was recovered from the Dharsi River near Miyapara, about one kilometer from the crematorium. The deceased sadhu has been identified as Mahendra Sutradhar.

According to local sources, he had come to the Kali temple at the Lalpur crematorium from Tufanganj about six to seven months ago. He lived alone in a room near the temple premises. When people reached the sadhu's room after learning about the incident, the scene was shocking.

As per information, his room was completely ransacked. The doors of two rooms were locked from the inside, while one window was found open. Meanwhile, local residents spotted a naked body in the Dharsi River flowing through the Miyapara area, which was later identified as that of the sadhu, Mahendra Sutradhar.

The body was spotted in the river around 8:30 AM on Sunday, after which local people immediately informed Shamuktala police station. On information, the police arrived at the spot, recovered the body from the river, and took it to the Shamuktala Primary Health Center.

Local people said that they had seen the sadhu in the area even the day before.

One person claimed that the sadhu had even had a meal at his house on Friday night. Given these circumstances, local people are not ready to accept it as a natural death and are suspecting murder. People have demanded a fair investigation into the matter.

The police have started an investigation into the case.
