28 Dec (HS): According to police, two suspected Kashmiri men were apprehended
by Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday after people complained about their suspicious
actions in Bareilly district. The incident came to light on Saturday morning
when residents reported on police's X account about two Kashmiri males who were
allegedly spotted begging at residences in Dhimri hamlet in the Ahladpur area
of district, according to police.
Police
in Izzatnagar conducted a search after suspecting their language and style of
speaking, according to reports. The accused sought to elude authorities by
blending in with the throng and offered namaz. However, when residents noticed
them again, police captured them, according to Bijendra Singh, the Izzatnagar
Station House Officer (SHO). During interrogation, the males identified
themselves as Shaukat Ali and Sajjad, both of whom live in Jammu and Kashmir's
Poonch area, he added.
Both
men informed interrogators that they had been residing at a local mosque since
arriving in the city on December 10 and had been living in the Dhimri hamlet since
then, claimed authorities. According to authorities, they also stated that they
were destitute and survived by begging, but no substantial information has been
obtained thus far. They are also being questioned by intelligence services,
according to police, who added that their actions seemed suspicious at first
glance. The Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) entered the investigation shortly
after they were detained, according to the SHO. The two men's pictures and
Aadhaar data have been given to Jammu and Kashmir Police for verification,
according to the SHO. Officials stated that more questioning is taking place.
