Murshidabad, 28 December (H.S.) Humayun Kabir's son has been taken into police custody on charges of assaulting his private security guard. The incident came to light on Sunday morning when Humayun Kabir's security guard filed a written complaint at the police station.
According to police sources, Constable Jumma Khan, who was assigned to Humayun Kabir's personal security, had applied for a few days of leave. Allegedly, Humayun Kabir's son, Ghulam Nabi Azad alias Sahel, assaulted him over this matter. On Sunday morning, Jumma Khan filed a complaint at Shaktipur police station. After receiving the complaint, the police went to Humayun Kabir's residence in Shaktipur to investigate the matter and took the MLA's son, Ghulam Nabi Azad, into custody.
However, Humayun Kabir, the Chairman of the Janata Unnayan Party, has completely denied these allegations. He has, in turn, accused the security guard of misbehavior. Humayun Kabir claimed that his son did not assault anyone, but merely asked the security guard to leave the house.
Humayun Kabir said, “The security guard entered my office room without permission and started misbehaving with me. He was trying to attack me. In this situation, my son asked him to leave. There was no assault involved. The police may conduct an impartial investigation if they want. I will return on Thursday and demand answers regarding the entire matter. I also want to know why the police came to my house without any notice.”
He also alleged that complaints of non-cooperation had been filed against the security guard in question previously. According to Humayun Kabir, he had requested the IC of Baharampur police station to replace the security guard, but no action was taken. He claimed that CCTV footage of the entire incident is available and will be shown if needed.
Meanwhile, Humayun Kabir has also threatened to gherao (surround) the Murshidabad SP's office. The police said that the entire matter is being investigated and action will be taken after considering all aspects.
