Kokrajhar (Assam), 28 December (HS):

A massive fire broke out at Madati Market in Parbatjhora of Kokrajhar district, triggering panic in the area. The blaze rapidly spread, reducing eight shops to ashes within a short span of time, police PRO informed on Sunday.

According to reports, goods worth approximately ₹30 lakh were gutted in the incident. The fire also gutted eight motorcycles parked at the market. The affected establishments included grocery shops, a motorcycle garage, a book shop and other small business units.

Following the incident, a chaotic situation prevailed in the Madati area. On receiving information, Kajigaon Police rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, initiated firefighting efforts. After nearly four hours of intense struggle by the police and locals, the fire was finally brought under control.

Local residents have suspected that the fire may have been caused due to an electrical short circuit. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.-------
