Chennai, 28 December (H.S.) : Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday announced that the newly constructed flyover in Coimbatore will be named after Bharat Ratna awardee C Subramaniam.

The decision aims to honor the former Union Minister and Governor for his monumental contributions to the nation, particularly his role in spearheading the Green Revolution. The flyover, which stretches from Aathupalam to the Ukkadam junction along Oppanakkara Street, will now officially be known as the C Subramaniam Flyover.

In an official statement shared on social media, the Chief Minister emphasized that honoring selfless leaders who earned the respect of the public is a sign of democratic maturity, regardless of differing political ideologies.

He described C Subramaniam as a towering statesman whose visionary leadership as a Union Minister laid the foundation for national food security. By addressing chronic food shortages through agricultural innovation, the veteran leader ensured a better future for millions of citizens.

The announcement came following a formal request made by Dr B K Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, who urged the state government to preserve the legacy of the late leader. Accepting the appeal, the Tamil Nadu government moved to perpetuate his memory in his home region of Coimbatore.

Authorities stated that this move reflects the government's commitment to recognizing the history of leaders who dedicated their lives to public service. The naming ceremony is expected to be part of the upcoming developmental inaugurations in the city, celebrating the veteran leader's enduring impact on Indian agriculture and governance.
