Delhi, 28 December (H.S.): Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in Guwahati on Sunday night commencing a meticulously planned two-day visit to Assam that underscores the central government's commitment to the state's cultural heritage, public safety, and developmental infrastructure.
No official engagements mark Sunday evening following his arrival, with Shah scheduled to rest at the state guest house in the Koinadhara area. The visit gains added significance amid anticipation for Assam's 2026 Assembly elections, aligning with Shah's broader poll-strategy tour across four states
Monday's Packed Itinerary
On Monday, December 29, Shah will commence proceedings at 10:15 a.m. by paying solemn homage to the martyrs of the Assam Movement against illegal infiltrators at the newly constructed Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Guwahati.
He will then proceed to Batadrava Than in Nagaon district's Borduwa, the birthplace of revered Vaishnava saint Srimanta Sankardeva, to inaugurate its comprehensive redevelopment project—efforts that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has hailed as a triumph over encroachments, restoring the site's sanctity.
A public rally awaits Shah post-inauguration at Batadrava Than, energizing BJP supporters ahead of electoral battles. Returning to Guwahati, he will unveil the new Police Commissionerate building alongside an advanced Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS), enabling real-time monitoring of over 2,000 CCTV cameras to fortify urban security and emergency responses.
Cultural Capstone and Context
Crowning the day's events, Shah will inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex—a state-of-the-art 5,000-seat auditorium in Guwahati—before addressing another public rally there.
Chief Minister Sarma personally oversaw preparations across venues, ensuring seamless execution. This visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent two-day Assam sojourn on December 20, where he launched key infrastructure initiatives, signaling sustained high-level focus on the Northeast.
