Private Schools Allowed To Hold Remedial Classes During Winter Vacations In Kashmir

Srinagar, 26 December (H.S.): The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has granted permission to recognised private educational institutions across the Kashmir Division to conduct remedial and supplementary teaching classes during the winter vacation for the academic session 2025-26.

According to a circular issued by the Joint Director (Elementary Education), Directorate of School Education Kashmir, the decision was taken after receiving multiple applications from heads of private schools seeking approval to start remedial classes on their respective campuses. The schools cited limited working days in the Valley due to prolonged winter vacations, adverse climatic conditions, administrative closures and other unavoidable factors as the reason for the request.

In view of these circumstances, the Directorate has allowed recognised private institutions to conduct remedial classes during the winter break, strictly in accordance with their recognition status and subject to specific conditions.

As per the guidelines, participation in remedial or supplementary classes must be voluntary and carried out only with the prior consent of parents. Schools have been clearly instructed not to charge any additional fee from students for these classes.

The circular further mandates that adequate heating arrangements must be ensured in classrooms to safeguard students during the harsh winter conditions. The timing for remedial classes has been fixed between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm only.
