Tezpur (Assam), 25 December (HS): The Anti-Corruption Branch carried out an operation in Tezpur and arrested a senior official of the Disaster Management Department while allegedly accepting a bribe.

According to sources, Partha Pratim Sharma, Project Officer of the Sonitpur district Disaster Management Department, was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of ₹50,000. The amount was allegedly demanded from a departmental employee in exchange for facilitating a transfer.

Officials said on Friday that the accused had sought the bribe under the pretext of arranging a favourable posting. Acting on a complaint, the anti-corruption team laid a trap and apprehended Sharma during the transaction.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether more officials were involved in the matter.---------------
