Chennai, 23 December (H.S.) : The Greater Chennai Traffic Police announced that fatalities on city roads have decreased by ten percent in 2025 compared to the previous year.
According to official data recorded up to December 15, the city witnessed four hundred and sixty-nine road fatalities this year, showing a notable decline from the five hundred and nineteen deaths reported during the corresponding period in 2024.
This improvement is attributed to a series of strategic safety measures and enhanced enforcement drives implemented by the department throughout the year.
Beyond the reduction in deaths, the police reported a significant sixty-six percent drop in cases involving grievous injuries. While two thousand and ninety-three such cases were recorded last year, the number plummeted to seven hundred and twenty-one in 2025.
An official release from the city police stated that the success is a result of increased patrolling, awareness activities, and the use of advanced technology.
The department has intensified its crackdown on speeding, drunken driving, and riding without helmets through manual checks and the deployment of technological tools like ANPR cameras and speed radar systems.
Authorities mentioned that they have also focused on training programs for personnel and safety workshops for school children, bus drivers, and delivery agents.
The Greater Chennai Traffic Police further noted that they are coordinating with other departments to improve road conditions, signage, and lighting at identified accident hotspots.
The department remains committed to prioritizing road safety and continues to implement remedial measures to ensure a further decline in road accidents across the city.
News regarding these safety updates reflects the department’s ongoing technological approach to accident reduction.
