Karbi Anglong (Assam), 23 December (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday clarified that no individual sitting on an indefinite hunger strike demanding eviction in Kheroni has been arrested by the police.

The Chief Minister said that some protesters were taken to Guwahati only for medical treatment after their health condition deteriorated and not due to any police action.

He further stated that no eviction drive was carried out in West Karbi Anglong as there is a standing directive from the High Court restraining such action in the area.

To assess the ground situation, Minister Ranoj Pegu and the Director General of Police (DGP) have reached the spot, the Chief Minister said, adding that the situation is expected to come under control by night.

Dr Sarma was reacting to the developments related to the West Karbi Anglong incident and assured that the government is closely monitoring the situation to maintain law and order.
