Kolkata, 19 December (H.S.): The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has demanded police action against BJP co-observer and IT cell chief Amit Malviya. TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh alleged that Malviya is sharing videos of the violence in Bangladesh and using the events there to spread instability and fear in Bengal. He stated that the Indian government should stand with the minority communities in distress in Bangladesh, and the Trinamool Congress will always stand with them.
Notably, tensions have escalated again in Bangladesh following the death of Inquilab Manch leader Sharif Usman Hadi. Widespread anarchy has gripped the country under the Yunus administration. Minority communities and media institutions are facing attacks. As news of Hadi's death spread, mourning processions were held in Dhaka, Chittagong, and other cities, students protested at universities, and sit-in demonstrations took place in several locations, including Shahbagh. At night, the violence escalated, with attacks on media offices; the office of 'Prothom Alo' was attacked and the office of 'The Daily Star' was set on fire. The Chhayanaut cultural center in Dhaka also witnessed acts of vandalism.
Sharing videos of these incidents, Amit Malviya claimed that the rise of radical elements in Bangladesh is a warning for Bengal's future. He said, “This is exactly how societies unravel when extremism is appeased and lawlessness is normalised. It is also why the trajectory of West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee is deeply worrying. Years of political patronage, erosion of institutions, and selective silence have pushed Bengal onto a dangerous path.”
Malviya also warned that if Mamata Banerjee's government remains in power after 2026, the situation in Bengal will spiral out of control.
