Kolkata Police have busted a heroin smuggling ring operating in Kolkata. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid late Thursday night and arrested one drug trafficker. The accused was apprehended at the Babughat bus stand, from where he was planning to travel to Odisha.

According to police sources, the arrested man has been identified as Bapi Thakur alias Dudhnath Thakur, a resident of Chitpur police station area. He had arrived at the Babughat bus stand on Thursday night and was planning to board a bus to Paradip in Odisha. The police believe he was planning to smuggle drugs there.

Following a tip-off, the police conducted a raid around 2:30 AM. During the search, 103 grams of a yellowish powdery substance, suspected to be heroin, were recovered from the accused. A mobile phone and some cash were also seized from him.

The investigation revealed that the accused had obtained the narcotics from a person residing in Bongaon, North 24 Parganas district. The police are now working to uncover the entire smuggling network.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections at Maidan police station, and an investigation has been launched.
