19 Dec (HS): On Goa Liberation Day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath sent his warmest greetings to the people of Goa. He paid respect to
the valiant freedom fighters whose sacrifices paved the path for Goa's
liberation and underlined the state's collective commitment to upholding the
ideals of liberty, dignity, and unity.
In
a post on X, he mentioned, “Heartiest congratulations to all the people of Goa
on Goa Liberation Day! Salute to all the immortal warriors who broke down the
walls of foreign slavery and connected this beautiful land with the soul of
India. May this state of culture, courage, and self-respect reach new heights
every day.”
Goa
Liberation Day, observed on December 19, commemorates the liberation of Goa
from Portuguese rule in 1961 following Operation Vijay, which ended 450 years
of colonial rule and united it with India; it is a day of remembrance for
freedom fighters as well as a celebration of Goan identity, often marked by
parades and cultural events in Goa.
