
Kolkata, 19 December (H.S.): The second triennial state conference of the Advanced Society for Headmasters and Headmistresses (ASFHM), the largest non-political and registered organization of headmasters and headmistresses from government-recognized, government-aided, and government-sponsored high schools and madrasas in the West Bengal, commenced on Friday at the University Institute Hall in College Square, Kolkata. This three-day conference will be held daily from 9 AM to 9 PM, from December 19th to 21st.
Approximately one thousand headmasters and headmistresses from all districts of the state are participating in the conference. Over the three days, a total of 44 delegates will engage in in-depth discussions on the current state of the state's education system, its problems, and their solutions. Key issues include the timely and transparent appointment of teachers and educational staff, financial security for schools, reduction in composite grants, corruption in the School Service Commission, privatization of education, prevention of student dropouts and child marriage, and financial penalties imposed by the Education Department and boards.
The conference began with a colorful morning procession. The formal inauguration was performed by Professor Dr. Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, Vice-Chancellor of Netaji Subhas Open University. The chief guest was Mr. Anirban, Principal of RCCIIT College, and the special guest was social worker Mr. Shankar Haldar. The welcome address was delivered by State President Dr. Haridas Ghatak, and the editorial report was presented by State General Secretary Chandan Maity. The sixth issue of the ASFHM Journal was also released on this occasion.
The conference has received messages of goodwill from senior officials of the Higher Secondary Education Council and the Board of Secondary Education. Several distinguished guests, including renowned author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, are expected to attend on Saturday.
