South 24 Paragnas, 16 December (H.S.): Eleven children from Baldevpur village under Mandirbazar police station in South 24 Paragnas district fell ill on Monday evening after eating a poisonous fruit that resembled almonds. All of them have been admitted to Diamond Harbour Medical College and Hospital. The incident has caused panic in the area.

According to local sources, the children were playing in a field by the roadside on Monday evening. They noticed a tree by the road and picked and ate the fruit from it. Shortly afterward, they began experiencing vomiting, stomach pain, and difficulty breathing. Seeing the children's deteriorating condition, their families panicked. They were taken to Mathurapur Rural Hospital. After providing primary treatment, and understanding the seriousness of the situation, the doctors referred all 11 children to Diamond Harbour Medical College that same night. They are currently undergoing treatment there. According to hospital sources on Tuesday, the children's condition is currently stable.

Local residents are demanding that the poisonous trees along the roadside be removed as soon as possible. The administration must take steps to ensure that such an accident does not happen again in the future.
