New Delhi, 16 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt birthday greetings to Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday, commending his pivotal role in advancing India's self-reliance through transformative initiatives in steel production and industrial growth.

From Political Scion to Steel Sector Architect

Born on December 16, 1959, in Haradanahalli, Karnataka, to former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Kumaraswamy rose through the ranks as a Janata Dal (Secular) leader, serving twice as Karnataka Chief Minister (2006-2007, 2018-2019) and securing Lok Sabha seats from Mandya since June 2024.

Assuming ministerial charge in June 2024 under President Droupadi Murmu and PM Modi, he has prioritized Production-Linked Incentive schemes attracting ₹27,106 crore in steel investments and 14,760 direct jobs while championing green steel and electric vehicle manufacturing.
