Kolkata, 16 December (H.S.): Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh has launched a scathing attack on the CPI(M) regarding the incident at Yuva Bharati Krirangan. In a post on the social media platform X on Tuesday, he reminded the Left parties of their time in power and accused them of hypocrisy.
Kunal Ghosh began his post with, Hello Comrades. He then referred to two major incidents that occurred in sports stadiums during the Left Front's rule. Referring to the first incident, he wrote that on August 16, 1980, there was massive chaos at Eden Gardens during the Mohun Bagan-East Bengal match. The police completely failed, and 16 people died in the incident. At that time, Jyoti Basu held both the positions of Chief Minister and Police Minister.
The Trinamool leader questioned what inquiry was conducted at that time and who resigned. He sarcastically asked if they felt no shame speaking about it today. He also mentioned that even today, Trinamool workers donate blood on that day to commemorate the victims.
Referring to the second incident, Kunal mentioned the 1996 Cricket World Cup semi-final. He wrote that the semi-final match between India and Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens had to be abandoned due to disturbances. This incident tarnished the image of Kolkata as well as the entire country. At that time, Jyoti Basu was the Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was the Police Minister, and Subhash Chakraborty was the Sports Minister.
Kunal again questioned what inquiry was conducted and who resigned. He asked if they remembered these incidents. Concluding his post with a sharp taunt, he wrote, There was no Facebook back then, so are you becoming saints and revolutionaries today?
