Ghaziabad,
16 Dec (HS): Two workers were killed and many others were critically injured
after a crane hook snapped at an auto parts manufacturing facility in the Sibli
industrial region here, authorities said on Tuesday. The collision happened on
Monday night. A crane hook snapped as the workmen were working on iron frames,
hurting four workers, according to Amit Saxena, Additional Commissioner of
Police (ACP), Modinagar. All four workers were transported to a neighboring
hospital, where two were pronounced dead. The other two injured workers are in
critical condition, he added.
The
deceased have been named as Shahid (20) and Azad Ali (42), while the injured
workers are Saleem and Ayan, both in their mid-20s, according to authorities. According
to the ACP, Saleem, a resident of Ghaziabad's Kaila Bhatta district, owns an
auto parts plant that employs around 85 workers. Following the event, family
members and relatives of the victims entered the facility and caused a
commotion, claiming that safety kits had not been issued to the workers.
The
furious relatives brought the remains inside the factory and chanted slogans
against the owner, demanding his arrest and sufficient recompense for the
killed and injured. Police authorities intervened and informed the families
that necessary action would be taken, and steps were made to transfer the
remains for post-mortem testing. However,
no FIR has been filed in this matter. The ACP stated that an investigation is
underway on the matter.
