Guwahati, 16 December (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday made strong remarks on the handling of criminal cases, drawing a contrast between the Congress regime and the present government while referring to the Zubin Garg murder case.

The Chief Minister said that during the Congress government, even hardened criminals used to get bail within two months, whereas the accused in the Zubin Garg murder case has not been released from jail till date. He asserted that the present government is committed to ensuring strict action and timely justice in serious criminal cases.

Dr Sarma further stated that the Assam Police had even gone to Singapore as part of the investigation into the Zubin Garg murder case, highlighting the seriousness and depth of the probe. He said the government left no stone unturned to ensure that the guilty are brought to justice.

The Chief Minister made these comments while responding to queries related to the ongoing legal proceedings in the Zubin Garg murder case, reiterating that law and order remains a top priority for the state government.
