Guwahati, 15 December (HS): Reacting sharply to remarks made by Leader of Opposition Devabrata Saikia, Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia on Monday said that the Congress party questions the credibility of Electronic Voting Machines only when it faces defeat, but accepts the same system when it emerges victorious.

Addressing the media, Dilip Saikia said the Congress has made it a habit to cry foul after every electoral loss by alleging vote theft and malfunctioning of EVMs. “When Congress loses, it says votes were stolen and EVMs were faulty. When it wins, everything suddenly becomes fair and transparent,” he remarked.

The BJP state president further stated that Congress today has neither public support nor faith in the democratic process. “Congress is now irrelevant both in EVMs and among the people. Instead of introspection, the party is misleading the public with baseless allegations,” he added.

Dilip Saikia’s reaction came in response to Devabrata Saikia’s recent comments in which the Congress leader had attributed the party’s defeat in Bihar and Haryana elections to alleged vote theft and irregularities in EVMs.----------
