Murshidabad, 15 December (H.S.): In Kendua ash pond area of NTPC under Farakka police station, a man allegedly murdered his younger brother's killer with a sharp weapon late Sunday night.

The deceased, 48-year-old Alam Sheikh, worked as a night watchman at the ash pond. He was allegedly murdered by a man named Panna Sheikh with a sharp weapon while on his way to work on Sunday. Farakka police have started an investigation into the incident. However, no arrests had been made as of Monday morning.

Local sources revealed that in 2015, a murder occurred in Jodpukuria village due to a rural dispute. Allegedly, Panna Sheikh's brother, Taufiq Sheikh, was dragged out of his house and murdered. Several people, including the deceased Alam Sheikh, were accused of the murder.

A case was registered against Alam Sheikh and others at the Farakka police station. They were arrested by the police. After spending a considerable time in jail, Alam Sheikh was released on bail. Following the murder of his brother Taufiq Sheikh, the elder brother, Panna Sheikh, fled the village fearing for his life.

It is reported that about two months ago, Panna Sheikh returned to Jodpukuria village after a long absence and started living there again. The deceased Alam Sheikh's elder brother, Nabi Sheikh, is a local leader of the Trinamool Congress. Nabi Sheikh's wife, Hasanara Bibi, is a current member of the Farakka Panchayat Samiti (local council) representing the Trinamool Congress.

On Sunday night, Alam Sheikh was on his way to work as a night watchman at the NTPC Kendua ash pond. Allegedly, Panna Sheikh and some others attacked him. After murdering Alam Sheikh with a sharp weapon, they fled the area. Alam Sheikh died on the spot. Later, the police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to Jangipur Sub-Divisional Hospital.

The deceased's elder brother, Nabi Sheikh, said, I was apprehensive after Panna returned to the village. He was trying to stir up trouble in the village again. But I never imagined that he would kill my brother so brutally. Following this incident, tension has spread in the area. The police administration is on high alert. The police have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incidents. The police are investigating the reasons behind the murder.
