Bhubaneswar, 15 December (H.S.): The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has expelled former Barabati–Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim from the Indian National Congress (INC) on charges of anti-party activities. With the expulsion, Moquim has also been removed from the party’s primary membership.
The disciplinary action was taken following a proposal submitted by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Bhakta Das, which was subsequently approved by the AICC.
According to party sources, Moquim had recently challenged the party leadership and written a letter to senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. He had also raised questions regarding the leadership of OPCC president Bhakta Das, actions that the party viewed as indiscipline and contrary to organisational norms.
The Congress leadership stated that the decision was taken in the interest of maintaining party discipline and organisational unity. Party sources confirmed that the move followed a review of Moquim’s recent actions and communications, which were found to be in violation of party discipline.
Congress leaders further said the decision underscores the party’s position that issues related to leadership and organisational functioning should be addressed through internal mechanisms rather than public or external platforms.
Sources added that the immediate trigger for the disciplinary action was a five-page letter written by Moquim to Sonia Gandhi, in which he reportedly questioned the leadership of the OPCC president and raised broader concerns about the functioning of the party’s state unit in Odisha.
