'Think Beyond Elections, Think Bold': PTR Calls for Long-Term Vision

Chennai, 13 December (H.S.) : Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan (PTR) called for bold, long-term thinking in governance, urging decision-makers to move beyond incremental, election-driven politics to achieve the goal of making Tamil Nadu a $4 trillion economy by 2047.

Addressing the UEF Trade Summit 2025, the Minister stated that transformational outcomes require the political courage to transcend short-term calculations. He observed that long-term vision is rarely natural to electoral politics, which tends to be incremental and gradual.

Highlighting the State's economic strength, Thiaga Rajan mentioned that Tamil Nadu recorded a real growth rate of 11.19% last year. He asserted that mathematically, sustaining a real Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of around 9% is achievable, which would allow Tamil Nadu to reach a $4 trillion economy by 2047.

PTR stressed that Tamil Nadu's greatest strength lies in its human capital, built on a foundation of relatively high inclusion, social harmony and a strong focus on education, with a Gross Enrolment Ratio far above the national average. He noted that this human capital enables the state to adapt to economic shifts, such as the current global diversification away from China, which has seen Tamil Nadu's electronics exports surge by over 700% in less than four years.

Concluding his address, the Minister emphasized the urgency of reforming education to equip workers for a future increasingly shaped by automation and Artificial Intelligence, reinforcing his call to think far beyond the next election.
