
Cachar (Assam), 13 December (HS): A huge quantity of Burmese Cigarettes Worth ₹30 Lakh Seized in Cachar. Cachar Superintendent of police informed on Saturday that vehicle bearing registration number HR 55 AJ 1851 was intercepted at the Digorkhal check post along the Assam–Meghalaya border, leading to the recovery of the large consignment of illegal cigarettes.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, security personnel recovered 29 cartons of Burmese cigarettes, amounting to a total of 3,19,000 pieces (29 × 11,000). The seized consignment has an estimated market value of ₹30 lakh, officials said.
In connection with the seizure, two persons identified as Prempal and Danveer, both residents of Uttar Pradesh, were apprehended from the spot.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the smuggled cigarettes, officials added.---------
