Tamulpur (Assam), 11 December (HS): A man was killed on the spot and two others sustained serious injuries after a wild elephant attacked residents in the town area of Tamulpur district headquarters, police informed on Thursday.

According to locals, the wild elephant strayed out of the nearby forest in search of food and attacked three people, leaving one dead instantly and two critically injured. The deceased has been identified as Taramohan Mandal. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Residents blamed the Forest Department for the incident, alleging that wild elephants have been creating havoc in the region for several years, but no concrete action has been taken despite repeated complaints. They claimed that the negligence of authorities led to this tragic incident.
