Delhi, 21 October (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday led the nation in honoring India's police forces on Police Commemoration Day, paying tribute to their courage and recalling the ultimate sacrifices made in the line of duty.

In a message posted on the social media platform 'X', the Prime Minister highlighted the crucial role police personnel play in national security. On Police Commemoration Day, we salute the courage of our police personnel and recall the supreme sacrifice by them in the line of duty, PM Modi wrote. Their steadfast dedication keeps our nation and people safe. Their bravery and commitment in times of crisis and in moments of need are appreciable.

Police Commemoration Day is observed annually on October 21 to honor the ten Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were killed in an ambush by Chinese troops in Hot Springs, Ladakh, on this day in 1959. The day serves as a national remembrance for all police personnel who have lost their lives serving the country.

Other national leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, also joined the Prime Minister in paying homage. Singh attended a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi, a monument dedicated by PM Modi in 2018 to recognize the sacrifices of police forces. The memorial stands as a symbol of the commitment and resilience of police personnel across India.
