Delhi, 21 October (H.S.): Continuing his annual tradition of celebrating Diwali with the armed forces, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent the festival of lights on Monday with Indian Navy personnel aboard the nation's first indigenously built aircraft carrier, the INS Vikrant, off the western seaboard near Goa and Karwar.
In a series of posts on the social media platform 'X', the Prime Minister shared glimpses of what he described as a remarkable day, a remarkable moment, and a remarkable sight. He expressed his privilege in celebrating the occasion among the Navy's brave personnel, stating, People love celebrating Diwali with their families. And so do I, which is why every year I meet our army and security personnel who keep our nation safe.
The celebration aboard the colossal warship included a range of activities. The Prime Minister witnessed an awe-inspiring Air Power Demo, which showcased the skill, discipline and technological excellence of the Navy's air wing. He highlighted the breathtaking display of MiG-29K fighters executing take-offs and landings on the carrier's short runway during both daylight and darkness.The Prime Minister also lauded the INS Vikrant as India's pride and a testament to the country's self-reliance, recalling its commissioning in Kochi.
His visit included participation in a traditional Bara Khana (community feast) with the sailors, a morning yoga session on the flight deck, and a vibrant cultural program.
PM Modi particularly noted a song penned by the naval personnel, Kasam Sindoor Ki, which he said would remain etched in my memory.
Reflecting on the experience, PM Modi poetically observed that the sparkle of sunlight on the sea resembles the lamps lit by valiant soldiers during Deepavali, forming a divine garland of lights.
The event also featured a grand steampast and flypast, involving numerous warships like INS Vikramaditya and INS Surat, and aircraft including the P8I and Kamov 31, showcasing the formidable strength of the Indian Navy.
