Guwahati, 05 September (HS): Assam Police have launched a major statewide crackdown against fraudsters, arresting around 350 people in a single day as part of ‘Operation Against 420’, Assam DGP Harmeet Singh said during a press conference on Saturday.

The operation was conducted across 29 districts, beginning at around 3 am, just 48 hours after the state’s SP conference. Police teams carried out coordinated raids against individuals allegedly involved in various forms of cheating and financial fraud.

According to the DGP, the accused had allegedly been duping people on the pretext of providing jobs and employment opportunities, as well as promising to get work done in various government and private offices. Some of them allegedly misused the names of police officers and lawyers to gain the trust of victims.

The crackdown also targeted fraudsters involved in financial scams through fake phone calls and messages. Police have intensified efforts to identify and apprehend such fraudsters operating across the state.

DGP Harmeet Singh said the statewide operation reflects Assam Police’s continued efforts to take strict action against fraud and protect people from organised cheating and financial scams.-----------
