Guwahati, 05 September (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a social media post, said that Assam Police rescued 58 cattle allegedly being prepared for smuggling abroad on the occasion of Janmashtami.

Referring to the close association between Lord Krishna and cows, Sarma said that while some cattle smugglers were allegedly engaged in preparations to take 58 cows out of the country, an Assam Police team intervened like “messengers of Lord Krishna.”

The Chief Minister said the cattle were subsequently rescued from various locations in Dhubri district, including riverine char areas. He also criticised those involved in cattle smuggling, referring to them as “demons” in his post.------------
