Guwahati, 05 September (HS): The Assam Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday commemorated the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on the occasion of Teachers’ Day at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Basistha, Guwahati.

The programme began with a Saraswati Vandana performed by Rijunani Goswami, invoking the ideals of knowledge, wisdom and enlightenment.

Assam Government Minister Ashwini Ray Sarkar attended the programme as the distinguished guest. Dr. Nilima Goswami and educationist Dr. Dayananda Pathak addressed the gathering and highlighted Dr. Radhakrishnan’s life, educational philosophy and contribution to India’s education system.

Dr. Pathak said education should not be viewed merely as a means of acquiring academic knowledge, but as a process of developing character, morality, independent thinking, social responsibility and national consciousness.

Dr. Nilima Goswami said teachers play a crucial role in shaping the values, discipline, intellectual outlook and national consciousness of future generations. She said a strong and progressive nation cannot be built through economic development and infrastructure alone, stressing the importance of education and teachers in nation-building.

Programme convenor Ranjit Sabhapandit spoke about the objectives of the event and underlined the continuing relevance of Dr. Radhakrishnan’s ideals and philosophy.

The Assam Pradesh BJP also expressed gratitude and respect to the teaching community, saying the values of knowledge, discipline, integrity, human values and service to the nation associated with Dr. Radhakrishnan would continue to inspire future generations.

BJP Assam Pradesh Vice-Presidents Dr. Amiya Bhuyan and Ashok Bhattarai were also present. The proceedings were conducted by party Vice-President Ratna Singh.----------
