Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a unique ‘Bhajan Clubbing’ programme in New Delhi on Friday, as part of events marking the 110th birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.

The programme was held at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Park, where singers and musicians performed devotional bhajans. Modi was seen seated in the front row, watching the performances.

Earlier in the day,PM Modi paid tribute to Upadhyaya and highlighted his philosophy of ‘Antyodaya’, which places emphasis on the welfare and upliftment of the most disadvantaged sections of society.

In a post on X, PM Modi said Upadhyaya’s ideas continued to inspire public welfare and grassroots development. He also urged people to remember his ideals and take responsibility towards society and the nation.

Born on September 25, 1916, Upadhyaya was a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and was associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He served as Jana Sangh president in 1967 and was among the key thinkers associated with its ideological development.

Upadhyaya died in February 1968 after his body was found near Mughalsarai railway station. The station was later renamed Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction.

Friday’s ‘Bhajan Clubbing’ programme combined devotional music with the commemoration of Upadhyaya’s birth anniversary, adding a contemporary format to the day’s tribute events.
