- Congress workers join BJP in the presence of Minister Pijush Hazarika at Jagiroad; Ministers Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta campaign in Dhing, Rupahi and Samaguri

Guwahati, 25 September (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) units of Nagaon and Morigaon districts are moving ahead with a comprehensive action plan in view of the forthcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election. As part of the initiative, the Nagaon District Yuva Morcha has decided to organise 1,000 small and courtyard meetings across the district, involving young men and women. Preparations for the meetings are underway. Similarly, the Morigaon District Yuva Morcha has planned around 800 meetings and gatherings to connect with the youth.

This was informed by Assam Pradesh BJP media panelist and media in-charge and coordinator for the Nagaon by-election, Dilip Kumar Sharma. In a statement issued today, Sharma said the Yuva Morcha has launched a campaign to connect the youth of the constituency with the ideology of the BJP. Under the campaign, the youth leadership of both districts has started its activities.

Meanwhile, the Nagaon and Morigaon district Mahila Morcha units continued their mass-contact campaign today by visiting voters' homes and holding courtyard meetings in different areas of the two districts. During these meetings, the leaders highlighted the welfare schemes launched by the BJP government for mothers and women.

Sharma also informed that several people, including Congress workers, joined the BJP in the Jagiroad constituency today and expressed their allegiance to the party. In the presence of Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika and Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka, two panchayat members of Lehpati Gaon Panchayat under the Lahorighat constituency, two booth presidents, 21 senior Mandal Congress leaders and six Youth Congress leaders, along with two booth presidents from the Jagiroad constituency, left the Congress and joined the BJP.

Meanwhile, a workers' convention of the Jagiroad constituency was held at the Jagiroad College auditorium, where BJP State General Secretary (Organisation) Rabindra Raju and Minister Pijush Hazarika were present.

NDA candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, Debasish Sharma, held meetings and interacted with people at around 11 places in the Rupahi constituency today. The places included Mahguri, Singia, Telia Bebejia, Juria, Gadaimari, Sutirpar Bazar, Melakading, Mukundati and Kandhulimari Parmaibheti, among others.

Similarly, Assam Cabinet Minister Sushanta Borgohain held a meeting in the Doomdoomia Mandal of the Dhing constituency and campaigned in support of NDA candidate Debasish Sharma.

Meanwhile, leaders of alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) also campaigned for the NDA candidate through a series of public meetings in Dhing, Rupahi and Samaguri today. AGP president and Assam Cabinet Minister Atul Bora, along with working president and Minister Keshab Mahanta, participated in several public meetings with AGP and BJP workers and appealed to people to vote for Debasish Sharma on the lotus symbol.
