Nagpur, 22 Sept (HS): The journey of passengers
using DigiYatra at Nagpur Airport is now going to be even easier. Facial
recognition technology has been introduced at all DigiYatra-enabled entrances
in a single phase, doing away with the earlier step of scanning the boarding
pass at the entrance.
The facility has been launched by GMR Nagpur
International Airport Limited (GNIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Limited.
Passengers who have registered on the DigiYatra app and have a boarding pass
attached to it will now have to show only their face at the DigiYatra-enabled
entrance of the airport. The door will automatically open upon identification.
Earlier, passengers using DigiYatra had to scan the
boarding pass at the entrance, along with registering on the app, verifying
identity and attaching the boarding pass. The identity was then verified
through facial recognition technology. With the new facility, the step to scan
the boarding pass has been skipped.
Shrikant Bhandarkar, CEO, GNIAL said,
Improving passenger experience at Nagpur Airport is one of our key
priorities. Facilitating facial recognition technology in a single step is an
important step in that direction. By simplifying the verification process and
minimizing direct human intervention, passengers can have a more efficient and
contactless travel experience. To use DigiYatra, passengers must first
authenticate their identity by registering on the app.
The travel information will then have to be shared
with the airport by adding a boarding pass to the app. Once the passenger shows
only their face at the DigiYatra-enabled gate after reaching the airport, the
identity verification will take place and the gate will open. Facial
recognition technology is also expected to be used at the next
DigiYatra-enabled checkpoints, making passenger processing faster and smoother.
