Positive Global Cues Lift Asian Markets; Most Regional Indices Trade Higher

New Delhi, 21 September (H.S.): Global markets are providing positive cues today. US markets closed on a firm note in the previous session, while Dow Jones futures are also trading higher today. In contrast, European markets remained under sustained selling pressure during the previous session. Asian markets, meanwhile, are witnessing a broadly positive trend today.

US markets witnessed sustained buying during the previous session, enabling Wall Street’s major indices to close in positive territory. The S&P 500 index gained 0.17 per cent to close at 7,650.50 points. Similarly, the Nasdaq rose 104.25 points, or 0.39 per cent, to end the previous session at 26,522.55 points. Meanwhile, Dow Jones futures were trading 169.53 points, or 0.33 per cent, higher at 51,852.17 points.

In contrast to the US market, European markets remained under pressure during the previous session. The FTSE index declined 156.66 points, or 1.45 per cent, to close at 10,659.13 points. Similarly, the CAC index fell 121.91 points, or 1.51 per cent, to end the session at 8,065.02 points. The DAX index also dropped 412.65 points, or 1.63 per cent, to close at 25,304.06 points.

Asian markets are also maintaining a positive trend today. Of the nine Asian markets tracked, eight indices are trading in positive territory, while one index remains in the red. The Jakarta Composite Index is the only regional index trading lower, declining 0.43 per cent to 6,413.75 points.

Meanwhile, GIFT Nifty has gained 0.15 per cent to reach 23,395 points. Similarly, the Straits Times Index has risen 0.23 per cent to 5,669.06 points.

The KOSPI index has recorded a strong rise today. It is currently trading 124.78 points, or 1.81 per cent, higher at 7,019.01 points.

The Nikkei index has also registered a sharp rise today. It is currently up 882.70 points, or 1.36 per cent, at 65,018.95 points.

Similarly, the Taiwan Weighted Index has gained 391.77 points, or 0.83 per cent, to reach 47,572.52 points.

In addition, the Shanghai Composite Index is trading 0.55 per cent higher at 3,933.37 points, the Hang Seng Index has climbed 123.22 points, or 0.50 per cent, to 24,874 points, and the SET Composite Index has advanced 0.50 per cent to 1,592 points.
